Who are we?
Tiptoe Theatre is an inclusive drama group based in Lincoln. Officially launched in September 2017 it was Founded by Leanne Twidale through the concern of the lack of accessible drama groups for young people with special needs.
Research shows that “having an active social life can help people with a learning disability to feel happier, included and valued” (Chadwick et al, 2014; Mason et al, 2013). It was upon this view that Tiptoe was created.
We offer weekly evening sessions that take place on Mondays, 5:30-7pm, at Lincoln Drill hall during term-time, welcoming all with mild-moderate learning difficulties and physical disabilities. We also offer drama workshops for charities in and around Lincoln – we are currently offering our services to KIDS Strut.
Through drama we intend to create experiences which will impact and benefit the young people’s lives through the development of social and communication skills.
Founder & Lead Facilitator
Leanne Twidale graduated with a BA (Hons) Drama degree from the University of Lincoln in 2016. In her second year of the course she completed a 6-month placement with Neon Youth Theatre (Zest Theatre’s previous youth theatre) in which she learnt invaluable experience in the running of a youth theatre, as well as gaining skills in working with young people in a creative way.
After she graduated she sought out voluntary experiences with Rhubarb Theatre, Stepping Stone Theatre and temporarily worked for MADD Performing Arts Summer School as an Assistant Drama Teacher. She took on the role of play-worker for the charity KIDS Strut and it was during this time that she began integrating her two passions together – drama/theatre and working with young people with disabilities.
